Grandparent Visitation Rights

Grandparents have visitation rights too.

It is unthinkable to many grandparents that they might lose the right to visit with their grandchildren. If for some reason or another you have lost the right to see your grandchildren, in Massachusetts there is a chance that you could get visitation rights back.

The most important thing that is considered when determining grandparent visitation is whether or not it is in the best interest of the children. Generally, it must be proven that denying grandparent visitation will actually be harmful to the children. Children most often have a special bond with their grandparent and a great deal of consistency, therefore making grandparent visitation an essential aspect to their well-being.

An alternative to grandparent visitation and something worthy of consideration in cases where a grandparent is raising their grandchild(ren) is formal adoption. By pursuing formal adoption, there will not be a chance for the children’s familial unit to be disrupted again, which makes for a more stable family environment for the children involved.
